Did you know that breathing exercises can be a quick and easy way to relax, and they can even lower your heart rate?
If less stress sounds good to you, give this simple alternate-nostril breathing exercise a go:
Sit in a comfortable position and breathe steadily through your nose.
Hold your right hand up to your face, by your nose.
Breathe out all the way, then gently press your right nostril closed with your right thumb.
Breathe in through your left nostril, then hold it closed with your right fingers.
Lift your thumb off your right nostril and breathe out through it.
Breathe in through your right nostril, then close it again with your thumb.
Take your finger off your left nostril and breathe all the way out through it.
Repeat for 5 minutes – the last breath out should be through your left nostril.
Try a different exercise if you have a blocked nose.
