Coronavirus: How to stay safe at the gym
Tuesday, 11 August · 2 min read

If you are returning to the gym or fitness studio you'll need to take steps to protect yourself and the people around you from coronavirus.

You should follow general advice around washing your hands regularly and keeping a safe distance from other people. But here's some further advice to stay safe.

Wipe down gym equipment before and after you use it
It’s important to clean everything you use. Your gym may provide spray and wipes, but you can also take your own

Keep your distance while you’re waiting for equipment
Your gym may have closed some of their machines or built barriers to keep you safe while you’re working out. However you’ll still need to keep a safe distance while you’re queueing to use equipment or moving around inside the gym

Arrive in your workout clothes, and shower at home if you can
Changing rooms can get crowded, so try to avoid using them if you can

Wash your gym clothes as soon as you get home
The virus that causes coronavirus can survive on clothes and hard surfaces like your water bottle, so make sure that you wash your kit after every visit. Try to wash your clothes at or above 60C if they can take it and use hot soapy water to clean your water bottle.
