One scientific study found that adults who wore either normal or heated socks to bed fell asleep more quickly than those who didn’t.
It’s thought that the warming effect of wearing socks to bed helps open up blood vessels, which is a signal to the brain that it’s time to sleep. Keeping your feet warm while you sleep may also help regulate your core body temperature, which will stop you from waking up because you’re too hot or cold.
So the next time you’re struggling to get to sleep, try wearing your favourite warm socks. If you find this uncomfortable, a warm foot bath before bed or a hot water bottle near your feet can do the job too.
