Turn taking a shower into a mindful moment
Thursday, 13 May · 1 min read

You may be thinking about trying meditation, as you’ve heard about its many benefits, including that it may help ease feelings of anxiety and depression. But, if you lead a busy life, you may find it hard to find the time and space to do it.

There is one private moment in your day that may be the perfect time to try meditation: while you shower. Combining these 2 calming self-care habits and just doing 5 minutes of meditation a day can help you feel less stressed and more fully present in your day.

Keen to try? Here’s how to meditate in the shower:

  1. Turn the shower on and close your eyes. Enjoy the warmth of the water for a minute.
  2. Breathe in and out slowly and deeply, focusing on your breath – do you feel it in your chest, around your nose, in your belly?
  3. As you wash, notice the soap on your skin – is it foamy, does it have a scent?
  4. Keep breathing – if your mind wanders, bring your focus back to your breath.
  5. When you’ve finished, gently open your eyes and bring your awareness back into the room.
