Foods that can help you sleep
Friday, 19 March · 1 min read

You’ve probably heard some foods and drinks can keep you awake – those that contain caffeine, for instance, like coffee and tea.

But did you know others contain a hormone that helps you fall asleep?

Most people sleep at night and are awake in the day. This 24-hour pattern is your ‘circadian rhythm’.

Melatonin is a hormone that helps with your circadian rhythm. Your brain makes it when it’s dark so your body knows it’s nighttime. For this reason, it’s sometimes called ‘the sleep hormone’.

Certain foods are natural sources of melatonin. So, if you’re looking for foods that may help you sleep more soundly, give these melatonin foods try:

  • almonds
  • milk
  • oats

By the way, did you know you can use our app to track your sleep? Go to 'Settings' then 'My trackers' and choose 'Sleep length' and 'Sleep quality'.
