Experts say that our minds make a strong link between our bedroom and sleep. But things such as your TV and smartphone can weaken this link. That’s why it’s recommended that you use your bedroom for only 2 things: sleep and sex.
Do you find yourself watching lots of episodes of a TV programme (binge-watching) before bed? Then you’ll probably already know that it can be difficult to stop (addictive). This makes it hard to stick to a bedtime routine, such as going to bed at a similar time each night – which is good for sleep.
And if you use your phone right up until you turn out the lights for bed, you should know this: the blue light that comes out of smartphone and tablet screens can make your brain think it’s daytime. This means your brain may stop making a hormone called melatonin, which helps you sleep.
Sex, on the other hand, unlike other forms of energetic exercise, can make you sleepy.
