As temperatures start to drop, you may be more likely to wake up with the symptoms of a cold: coughing and sneezing, a sore throat and a blocked or runny nose.
Some people find drinking honey and lemon can help soothe their throat, but there isn’t much scientific evidence to show that works.
You may find other self-care options more effective. For example, the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) recommends adults try gargling warm water mixed with salt to ease a sore throat.
To relieve congestion, you can try using a vapour rub on your back or inhaling steam from a hot shower. It’s best to sit in your bathroom while the shower is running to avoid burns and scalds.
Most importantly, get plenty of rest, and keep drinking fluids to keep your body hydrated. Eating healthy food may also help your body fight a cold.
