Dr Mary Lowth worked as a general practitioner in Suffolk for 20 years. She has been a medical writer and journalist since 1992 and has written for numerous publications and websites, including Patient, Private Eye and Healthily. After qualifying at Cambridge in 1988 and initially specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology, Mary moved to general practice and became a GP trainer, GP training programme director and MRCGP (Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners) examiner. She has a masters degree in medical law and ethics, and is working on a PhD in human rights in transplantation.
